Whatever stage of your career, as a practicing occupational therapist you will have developed skills and knowledge that you apply every day. This module will ask you to draw from your professional experience and navigate through the unique circumstances of climate displacement and migration.
Your Experience
You will complete activities which contextualise the climate migration landscape, encouraging you to expand upon your own practice with these issues in mind. At times you will play the role of the Occupational Therapist, and also be asked to fill the shoes of someone resettling due to the effects of climate change, all the while making note of your experiences and ultimately sharing your ideas with other professionals within the WFOT network via the OTION forum.
What will I learn?
After working through this module, you should be able to:
- Articulate how changing global conditions impact upon communities and the displacement of people.
- Identify challenges that climate migrants face when relocating to a new community.
- Propose solutions to facilitate quality of life for people displaced due to climate change.
How long is the course?
You should allow up to one hour per section with a total 6-8 hours for completion of the module, however there are also suggested activities which you may wish to work on in addition.
What do I need to know to take the course?
There are no course prerequisites other than your willingness to learn about this topic.
How much does the course cost?
There is no cost to enrol in the course. WFOT resources are developed by expert occupational therapists who provide their time on a voluntary basis.
